How to Merge Orders in Your Shipping Manager
Handling multiple purchases from the same customer should not mean printing multiple labels or paying extra for delivery. Merging orders is a practical way to combine shipments going to the exact same address. This keeps your fulfilment process efficient and saves you money on postage.
When to merge orders
You will usually need this feature when a single customer makes several separate purchases that can be packed into one box.
A common example is when a shopper uses the one click buy option on platforms like eBay. They might buy a few different items in the same browsing session. Each item comes through to your dashboard as a separate order, but they are all heading to the exact same person. Merging them lets you send everything together in a single parcel.
How to merge your orders
The Interparcel Shipping Manager automatically flags which orders can be combined. Just follow these steps:
- Spot the red icon: When the system detects orders going to the same address, a red icon will appear in your Shipping Manager.
- View the suggestions: Click on that red icon to open a list of suggested merges.
- Select the orders: Check the boxes next to the specific orders you want to combine into one shipment or the one on the top to combine them all.
- Combine them: Click the Merge Orders button.
- Select the parent order: Choose the order you would like to merge the others into, then click Merge.
Once your orders are merged, the items are grouped together into one shipment. Because you are packing multiple products together, the total size and weight of your order will change.
If you have Smart Boxing turned on, the Interparcel system removes the guesswork from this step. Smart Boxing looks at the dimensions of all your combined items and automatically selects the right package from your saved list of available boxes. This ensures your items fit properly and helps you get accurate shipping rates for your newly merged order.
