The TNT Manual Handling Processing (MHP), Residential & Other Fees Explained

It's important to understand these charges, especially when shipping to residential addresses. Ensure your packages are accurately weighed and measured to avoid unexpected fees.

The Manual Handling Processing (MHP) fee is $16.50 exc. GST (AUD) and will apply for items that don't meet the requirements of the service being used. Keep reading for more information about the Manual Handling Processing (MHP) fee for each service.

How Interparcel Handles Residential and Heavyweight Fees

When you request a quote through Interparcel, our system automatically provides you with the most suitable services based on the information you provide, including your delivery and pickup requirements. If you are shipping to a residential address, the Residential Delivery fee is already included in your quote for B2C services. Additionally, if your shipment is within the Heavyweight Residential categories, the associated fee will also be included into your quote.

It's essential to ensure that the correct service is selected, and the weight and dimensions of your parcels are accurately declared. An additional surcharge may apply if the services have been incorrectly selected or if the weight or dimensions are misdeclared. This ensures transparency and helps you avoid unexpected fees, making your shipping experience smooth and hassle-free with Interparcel. To clarify what qualifies as residential, TNT categorises a Residential address as a home or private residence, including places where a business operates from a home, as well as any shipment where the sender has designated the delivery or pickup address as residential.

What is the TNT Heavyweight Residential Pickup and/or Delivery Fee?

TNT charges a Residential Pickup/Delivery fee of AUD $6.50 + GST, and based on the declared weight and dimensions, it may also incur a Heavyweight Residential fee. It's important that you have correctly weighed and measured your items as they may be subject to this fee once a package audit is completed. Please ensure that you select the correct service when sending to a residential address to ensure that you are paying the correct rate.

This fee will be applied to each consignment’s chargeable weight, which is the greater of the dead weight and the cubic weight.

  • Heavyweight Residential Pickup (RP1) - AUD $63 + GST : Fee per consignment for pick up from a residential address with a chargeable weight of 30kg and over, but less than 100kg.
  • Heavyweight Residential Pickup (RP2) - AUD $198 + GST: Fee per consignment for pick up from a residential address with a chargeable weight of 100kg and over.

What is the TNT Manual Handling Processing (MHP) fee?

The TNT Manual Handling Processing (MHP) fee was introduced in March 2017 and it has been updated to AUD $16.50 + GST. Its purpose is to reduce the number of parcels that can't be processed through the sorting machines. These items require human intervention because of their size, weight, fragility, contents or packaging. It could be due to inadequate packaging, an unstable parcel, or an unusual item shape or restricted contents.

Since these items require manual sorting by TNT, it may slow down the delivery process for all your parcels and others. If more packages can meet the requirements to get sorted through machinery automatically, then TNT can deliver your product to customers faster.

How is the Manual Handling Processing (MHP) fee Applied?

When you use Interparcel's shipping solutions, you don't have to use a calculator to determine how much you need to pay. The TNT Manual Handling Processing (MHP) fee gets automatically applied to specific parcel dimensions. They include:

  • The parcel length is less than 20 cm or greater than 120 cm
  • The parcel width is less than 10 cm or greater than 60 cm
  • The parcel height is less than 1.5 cm or greater than 80 cm
  • The diagonal length is greater than 120 cm
  • The parcel weight is less than 250 g or greater than 30 kg

What Parcels are Exempt from the Manual Handling Processing (MHP) fee?

As long as the size, weight, fragility, contents or packaging of your parcel are within the standard parameters specified above, it may be exempt from the Manual Handling Processing (MHP) fee. There is also an exemption for TNT branded satchels travelling on a TNT Domestic Priority service. This includes the 9:00 Express, 10:00 Express, 12:00 Express, and Overnight Express.

It's important to note that if you're using a TNT branded satchel, it must be packaged and sealed correctly. This type of packaging cannot be used for products listed as dangerous goods or fragile products by TNT. We also recommend reviewing our prohibited and restricted items list to better understand when you can use our shipping services and when you can't.

What is TNT Book-in Request (CB1) Fee?

If you are sending parcels to a Scheduled Delivery Warehouse, such as Amazon or any other location where the receiver has specific delivery requirements, such as a designated time and day, it's crucial to be aware of TNT's additional charges to avoid unexpected fees.

One of the key charges is the TNT Book-In Request (CB1) Fee, which is AUD $40 + GST per request. This fee applies per shipment whenever a specific delivery time and date are required, even if it falls within or after the estimated transit time. The TNT Book-in Request (CB1) fee may also apply when the driver needs to reschedule the delivery because the premises were not available to receive the parcels. It’s important to note that this fee can be charged multiple times per shipment and is in addition to any other applicable surcharges or fees, including the Book-In Storage fees.

To avoid the Book-In Request (CB1) Fee, proactive communication is essential. We suggest contacting your receiver in advance to confirm they can accept the delivery within the standard timeframe and verify that no special Book-In procedures are required.

What are the TNT Book-In Storage Fees

In addition to the Book-In Request (CB1) Fee, businesses should be mindful of TNT Book-In Storage Fees, which are applied per shipment and per day. Here's a breakdown of the storage fees:

  • Day 1 to Day 2: No Book-In Storage fee is applied for the first two days. Day 1 starts on the next business day after TNT/FedEx receives the shipment at the destination depot/location.
  • (ST1) Day 3 and Day 4: A storage fee of AUD $50 + GST per shipment (per consignment note), per day is incurred.
  • (ST2) Day 5 onwards: The storage fee increases to AUD $75 + GST per shipment (per consignment note), per day.

These storage fees are in addition to any other applicable surcharges or fees related to the shipment, including the Book-In Request (CB1) fee.
