CRL Express Surcharges Explained

At Interparcel, we strive to provide transparent pricing for your shipping needs. However, some additional charges may arise due to your particular circumstances or specific handling requirements.

To help you minimise any unexpected costs for your pallet shipments, we've expanded on the most common surcharges with CRL Express. Review these guidelines to better understand which fees might apply to your shipment.

A shipment may be subject to one or more surcharges.

Freight and Packaging-Related Surcharges

Accurate quoting and booking rely on entering the correct weight, dimensions, packaging type, and address. Below are some of the CRL Express surcharges to consider:

  • Misdeclaration Surcharge*: This surcharge applies when the declared weight, dimensions, or other shipment details are inaccurate. Couriers rely on accurate information to calculate shipping costs, and discrepancies may result in additional fees. The final fee, based on our team’s review of the parcel’s actual dimensions and weight, will be issued after the surcharge assessment is complete.
  • Oversize Charge: A fee of $50 AUD +GST per pallet will be applied to any pallet measuring 2.4m or more in length or width. Please note, delivery delays may occur due to special handling.
  • Overweight Surcharge: A pro-rate fee applies to any item weighing 1,000 kg or more. The final cost may vary depending on factors such as location and total shipment weight.
  • Reweigh Fee: A $5 AUD +GST fee will apply if a consignment is under-declared and needs to be reweighed to confirm its actual weight or cubic size.
  • Hand Load/Unload Surcharge: A fee of $40 AUD +GST will apply per pallet for any shipment where manual loading or unloading is required.

* Surcharges marked with an asterisk are subject to fuel surcharge.

Service related surcharges

  • Return to Sender Fee (RTS)*: This surcharge applies when a shipment is returned to the sender either at the customer’s request or at the carrier’s discretion. The total cost will vary based on the circumstances and will include freight charges and any other applicable fees.
If the sender initiates an RTS request, it will only be processed once full payment has been received. The RTS fee remains applicable even if the sender refuses delivery or is unable to accept the returned shipment.
  • Futile Pick-Up/Delivery: A fee of $35 AUD +GST per pallet is applicable if a vehicle is dispatched but the goods cannot be collected or delivered.
  • Re-delivery Fee: A charge of $35 AUD +GST will apply for each additional delivery attempt following a failed initial delivery.
  • Tail Lift Surcharge: A fee of $40 AUD +GST per pallet, per end (collection and/or delivery) will apply if CRL Express is required to supply loading or unloading equipment. Customers are responsible for selecting the correct service option or ensuring suitable equipment is available at both ends.
  • Waiting Time: A fee of $75 AUD +GST per hour, charged in 15-minute increments applies at both collection and delivery points if the allocated loading/unloading time is exceeded.

How to avoid these surcharges:

  • Accurately measure and weigh each pallet (length, width, height, and weight).
  • Ensure proper packaging and avoid additional handling instructions like “Handle With Care” or “Do Not Stack.”
  • Keep pallets under 1,000kg dead weight or under 2.4m at any dimension.
  • Select the correct service type and ensure the right equipment is available at both ends.
  • Double-check shipping details before confirming the order.
  • Ensure shipments are ready for collection and monitor tracking to prepare for delivery.

Address Error or Address Update/Change Surcharges

This charge is applied when details such as the suburb, postcode, or state are incorrect. These errors can lead to delivery delays or the need for rerouting, which incurs extra costs.

  • Relocation Fee: A charge of $35 AUD +GST per pallet is applied for relocations caused by incorrect, incomplete, or amended addresses. A new label may be required, and further fees may apply. Final charges are confirmed once updated details are provided. Requests will only be processed once payment has been received
  • Residential Fee: CRL Express services are designed for Business-to-Business (B2B) shipments, where both collection and delivery addresses are classified as commercial premises. Businesses operating from residential locations are not eligible for these services via Interparcel.

If either the collection or delivery address is deemed residential, a fee of $35 AUD +GST per pallet will apply at each location.

Additional surcharges (e.g., Hand Load/Unload, Tail Lift, Waiting Time) may also apply.

How to avoid this surcharge:

  • Double-check the suburb, postcode, and state match before booking.
  • Ensure you have the correct address details, including name and phone number, before booking.

Important Notes

  • The surcharges listed above are correct at the time of publication but are subject to change.
  • Additional charges not listed here may also apply.
