Case Study: Keeko Oral Care

Keeko was created by Sabrina who partnered with Interparcel to make shipping internationally easy.

Tell me about Keeko

My brand is called Keeko and it offers a new generation of dental care drawing on Ayurvedic medicine and native Australian botanicals to cleanse and support a healthy mouth and body. 

Each of our fun-to-use products have been developed with dental professionals using safe, effective, natural and vegan ingredients to deliver amazing results.

How did you begin your business?

I started Keeko in 2016. It happened soon after I sold my previous business which was a small eCommerce store selling a range of natural and organic skincare brands from overseas, and my first foray into my own business. 

I learnt so much especially around what products seemed to connect with customers through either their formula, values, packaging design or brand tone of voice (Hint: it's all 4!). I got into Ayurvedic medicine around the same time as I was having all sorts of dental and health issues and I was just going around in circles with regular western medicine. 

It was through this journey and the amazing health transformation I had with oil pulling (an oil based mouthwash treatment) that I decided to launch my own range of holistic dental products which I call "Oral Wellness". It started with one product and has grown into a full range that is stocked at places like Goop, Anthopologie and Adore Beauty.

What shipping challenges were you facing with other couriers before you switched to Interparcel?

My business started to really grow, especially in the United States and I was struggling to find a simple and easy solution that I could integrate into my business. The rates that I was getting directly from the couriers were just insane and the customer service if there was a problem was non-existent. I find that US customers expect their orders to arrive very quickly and can sometimes be unforgiving  when there are shipping delays. I call it the 'Amazon Prime Effect'! People are so used to getting their order within 24 hours, if not 2 hours and for free, it's made it extremely difficult for small brands to compete with that service and expectation. So being able to provide the best solution we can with speedy customer service turn around times is important. 

What have you achieved after Interparcel?

Only 12 months into partnering with Interparcel, I have doubled my international wholesale revenue. This is down to being able to be cost effective and agile with my shipping, (thanks Interparcel!). 

Why would you recommend Interparcel to other businesses?

Yes, in fact I have recommended it to several other brands already over the years.

What are your future goals for your business?

I am shifting focus a bit more into the domestic market and continuing to develop new and exciting products!

What advice would you give to someone just beginning their ecommerce career?

There are more times than I can count where I wanted to throw my computer out the window and chuck it all in, but it's my WHY that kept me going. It's really important to be clear on your WHY beyond just "making money" because there will be many times you ask yourself "Why the heck am I doing this" when you work more than ever before but are the last to get paid!
