Summer is just around the corner which means BBQs around the country will be dragged out from the shed and prepped for entertaining family and friends on those hot, sunny days.
While any hot plate above a flame is great, nothing beats cooking on a quality Weber grill. Very few would know this better than Joel Black, who has a passion for collecting and cooking on vintage Weber BBQs. Joel has accumulated quite the ensemble; some are over 50 years old and have been imported directly from the USA using Interparcel to ensure their safe arrival.
But this isn’t Joel’s only passion. He also wants to raise much needed awareness for a cause close to his family’s heart, Pregnancy and Infant Loss. One way he’ll be doing this is by hosting a fundraising competition in conjunction with his chosen charity Sands and Red Nose Australia. The competition will involve huge prize pool draws all of which relate to his hobby of Weber grilling and collecting. Interparcel is teaming up with Joel for this amazing cause and will be responsible for shipping the prizes to their new owners.
Want a chance of winning one of these exceptional vintage Weber BBQ prize packs while supporting this fantastic cause? Here’s what you need to know.
Joel’s story
Joel’s obsession with collecting vintage Weber BBQs started around three years ago but escalated when he had some extra time on his hands due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The extra hours at home allowed Joel to build on his grilling skills. With each grill restoration and purchase came a new appreciation for the Weber quality. This soon became an obsession.
His collection has grown to 30+ grills which span decades in their age. Many of them were imported from the USA using Interparcel as his preferred and only choice for importing. Due to the ease and simplicity of the multicarrier platform, he continues to use the Interparcel shipping solution to consistently add to his grill collection.
Joel has established some great relationships with collectors both nationally and internationally and he thought he would reach out to this great group for support in raising much needed awareness and funds for a cause extremely personal and important to his family. He is just as passionate about raising awareness and funds for pregnancy and infant loss, which, sadly, he has experienced firsthand. His first daughter, Torah Jaymes Black, was stillborn on Valentine’s Day in 2016 from Rhesus due to blood incompatibility. Joel was fortunate to have an amazing hospital team, friends, and family that provided unconditional support during one of the most challenging moments in his family’s life.
Joel recognises that pregnancy and infant loss are subjects that don’t get discussed openly enough. The support of families through pregnancy and infant loss is so critical. A child that you were expecting or had is now gone. For many families, the pain of losing a child can last a lifetime. The pain and emotion resurfaces day to day and can often be overwhelming on many families years after, particularly on days like Mothers and Fathers Day.
By raising awareness, Joel hopes to encourage friends and families to offer ongoing support to people they know who have experienced this type of loss. If they can recognise when it’s difficult for them and perform small gestures, it can make a big difference to someone’s journey through a loss.
The Fundraising Competition
Joel and his family were fortunate to have received fantastic support during his time in need.
Now he wants to give back and support a charity organisation that offers tremendous support and assistance to families who experience the heartbreaking loss of their baby or child.
To ensure that families can receive this support and to ease the stress involved in pregnancy and infant death, Joel, with the cooperation from Sands and Red Nose Australia, is hosting a fundraising competition with some amazing vintage Weber BBQs as prizes.
Joel, Sands/Red Nose will be setting up a dedicated fundraising page with all of the details on how you can donate and enter. The fundraiser will be running for the full Month of October being Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. It is the best place to find out all the information on how you can support a great cause be in the running to score yourself some great prizes.
